Castlefield Founder Sophie Taylor is passionate about a variety of issues affecting people (especially BIPOC women and girls) around the world, and about preserving and celebrating global art, culture, and histories. She believes that people should help if and when they’re able to, which is why each month Castlefield makes a donation to an organization that supports one or many of the following:
- Women’s & Girls’ Rights, Health, Safety, and Education
- The Arts, Design, History, Culture
- Nature, Wildlife, and the Environment
- Human Rights, Civil Rights, and Racial justice
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
- Business and Entrepreneurship
Examples of organizations that Castlefield has supported in the past include:
Plan International, National Geographic, Acumen, Met Museum, Aga Khan Foundation, St. Michael’s Hospital, WWF, Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Inneract Project, Girls Inc., Heifer International, ACLU, Girls Who Code, Panthera, Women’s Sports Foundation, Smithsonian, Shelley Cares Foundation, and Royal Ontario Museum.
In May 2023, Sophie founded Creative Start™, a nonprofit that provides workshops, courses, talks, and mentorship in design and the arts to diverse girls and young women, especially those who are Black, Brown, or Indigenous. The organization aims to inspire, teach, and guide the next generation of creative women of color.
